I dont know how much this will matter, since this TV was released years ago, but I bought mine the day after Thanksgiving in 2006. I have loved it ever since, and have never had any problems. A family friend is looking to upgrade from a CRT to an LCD, and in helping them look online and in stores (they only want a 32″ and would prefer staying under 0)I am seeing todays “new” TVs coming out with worse secs than this television! I just bought the Samsung LN52A650 this past weekend, so I will most likey part ways with this terrific set since I am no longer using it, and it will give them a TV for less than current market ones with better performance than they can find in their price range.

Great tv as expected. I don’t know about you guys but buying such an expensive television online (not tangible) made me very nervous. The price vs. risk/reward was worth it and so far it has worked out perfectly. I saved 5-600 dollars buying from Amazon over the local CC or BB. Bought a Peerless mount from Mounts and More, hung it up and it looks incredible. Standard def programs look very good considering it is a 1080p high def tv trying to process and display a regular crappy cable signal. I truely believe for the price I paid it is the best bang for the buck in the 40″ lcd category. I sit approximately 10-16 feet from the set and it is plenty big. I personally think people are buying much bigger TV than they need, and what they don’t realize is that with most HD big screen tv’s (40 and up), the picture is pretty fuzzy from close up. Some of manufacturer’s viewing distances are a bit low in my opinion. If you’re getting a 50 or bigger, you better be sitting 15 feet away at the closest spot. Anyway, this Sammy is really a good piece of work – quick changes between inputs, razor sharp hd picture, nearly equally sharp standard dvd picture(pscan), and very good standard def picture. Picture and picture is great – I can watch one half from the digi cable box and on the other half is the standard cable picture per a splitter. It only has 1 tuner but that’s all you need for most PIP users. Remote is good, but I don’t use it. I use my receiver remote that learns keys. It starts up very quick compared to my dad’s lcd rear projection – 3 seconds after hitting the on switch and it is running full blast. Sad thing is, this review will probably be worthless because this set is almost obsolete since Sammy’s new models just came out a month or 2 ago. But if you can find one I wouldn’t hesitate. I’ve had it for 2.5 months and it’s smooth sailing so far. I’m hoping the 50,000 hour life span estimate is accurate so in 2022 I’ll still be enjoying it (yea right).

I research for 3 months for a new tv and after checking out all of the TVs for myself and reading all of the review this TV made the most sense for the money and what I needed. I have a 6.1 sound system xbox 360, PS3, HD DVR and everything runs through my receiver via HDMI. This TV has a great picture and provides many options. I would suggest if you calibrate it you custom your 120 b/c it makes it look soap opera like. If you calibrate it right it gives you a clean finish like a plasma. The only things is it does get a little blury at times when watching sports, but then you can turn it back on. Also it has an automatic drop to 24 hz when watching bluray which is its native resolution. This gives you a much cleaner look. All in all I am very happy with my buy…and I am a very picky shopper. The only thing I don’t like the fact that you have to pay extra for the wireless internet adapter….which I don’t even use that much b/c they don’t offer Netflix. Hope this helped…

This upgrade was well worth the effort and expense. We live out in rural Texas on a small farm. It is about an hour drive to go see a movie so our home theater setup and satellite TV system gets a lot of use. I am somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to the latest and newest technology. I tend to wait and watch for a while before I purchase. I am a medical professional and pretty “tech savvy” but it is not my main interest in life as it may be for some. Our Sony VEGA dinosaur was one of the last of the giant CRT type TV’s made. It weighs nearly 300 lbs and was purchased around 8 years ago. Its picture, while ok was noticeably dated when viewing some of my friend’s newer setups that I’d seen lately. We have a PS3 Blue Ray player that the kids use for games and we all use for movies. Before our purchase I read quite a bit on the pros and cons of the different options and opted for a plasma screen as our family room is quite wide. I’d read a wide viewing angle could be a problem with the LCD type sets. I read many good things about Samsung’s plasma sets but was concerned about some of the comments regarding a “buzzing” noise coming from the set. Although we purchase quite a few items on line and have always had good service from Amazon, this was the first TV, especially of this size and expense that I’d purchased online. After considerably thought I decided that the price on this model was just too good to pass up so I placed the order. We’ve had the TV in use now for a bit over a month and are very, very, very pleased! br /Again, I am not an expert but in my opion the picture on this set is incredible. We have the non-Blue Ray DVD version of the “Planet Earth” series and the new Blue Ray “Life” nature series. The combination of the amazing photography in those BBC series with this set’s amazing picture will almost evoke an emotional response! The blacks are so deep and the pictures are so incredibly detailed it almost defies description. I don’t watch a great deal of sports but the several Blue Ray and non-Blue Ray action movies have been equally impressive. We pump the sound through our home theater tuner so I can’t comment on the sound from the TV speakers. From the moment I unpacked the set and turned it on I was very interested to see if there was any “buzzing” as was reported in some Samsung sets. I have listened very intently from many angles, close and far and can discern no buzzing whatsoever. Our set sits on a TV cabinet in the corner so it is not hanging on the wall or right against the wall but I don’t think even mounting the set on the wall would cause any amplification of any “buzzing” as I’ve been unable to detect any at all. The remainder of the TV’s features has been completely satisfactory. To say the least we are very pleased with this TV. br /As for my other concerns, the shipping personnel were very considerate. The truck had to come through the gate off the main paved road and come to the house which is down a gravel drive about 300 yards long. The shipper not only brought the TV up to the house, but they set it on the driveway next to the front porch so we could just push it in the front door. The instructions from the shipper were clear and they were very considerate about co-coordinating their arrival so that we could be sure to leave the gate open so they wouldn’t be locked out of the farm.br /Overall, this purchase experience has been one of the most satisfying ones I’ve had when purchasing online items. br /br /

While searching for a tv via various sites over a period of about 7 months I noticed a recurring theme- I became overly concerned with the negative feedback and starting ignoring good deals on great tvs. I then noticed that a lot of the negative feedback was either delivery related, service related or otherwise rare occurrence related. I then came to the realization that there will always be a chance that a product that you buy will be defective- that’s life.
I had been tracking this tv for about 6 months and saw the price vary (on Amazon) from 00 to about 00. Ever since the new Samsung LED tvs arrived on the scene, the old top of the line HD LCD tvs have lowered in price. Perfect timing. I went through Crutchfield which has listed the price at ,499.99- the lowest I have personally seen…ever.
So I finally pulled the trigger. FREE delivery, no sales tax, delievered within a week, perfect condition. 100% happy. Just a quick note, when I was doing my research I thought that some of the posts were from salesmen or written by a member of Samsung- please let me assure you that I’m just your average Joe who just purchased an amazing tv.
The good:
1. Excellent picture quality
2. Blue TOC matches my decor much better than the gaudy red TOC.
3. Easy setup.
4. The 120 Hz matched with the 4 ms refresh rate makes every channel so realistic it’s scary. You can really notice the difference- makes every HD channel look like a blu ray disc.
5. Easy calibration- it is automated so you don’t have to do anything. Best buy charges about 0 for calibration- ridiculous.
6. Extremely thin- amazing. I chose to mount this tv to a stand so the small depth allows me to push my stand very close to the wall to provide a “wall mounted effect” without the inconvenience of hiring an electrician to wire it up.
The “Bad”:
1. The sound- please read further…I put “bad” in quotes here because the less than desirable portions of a tv of this caliber cannot really be considered “bad”. For example, many posts suggest that the sound is “bad”. Honestly, this tv is ultrathin so what kind of speakers will fit into a tv that thin? Garner expectations intelligently. Buy a Samsung soundbar. They are ultrathin and will give you ten times more bang for your buck than trying to rely on stock speakers in any flat screen tv.
Take my word for it, awesome tv. Awesome bang for your buck. Just remember, save yourself some time don’t read the negatives.

I just discovered this thing plays Divx files from a USB stick (see page 53 of the instructions for a full list of supported video codecs). It plays them full screen and the quality is very impressive considering the video files I was playing were only 640 x 480. Somehow this TV is able to scale by a factor of 3 and still maintain a crisp image.

This LCD has one of the most attractive pictures with rich colors and excellent contrast ratios compared to any of the other LCD brands . Menus are fairly intuitive to use to make adjustments and set ups. Like any LCD there is a slight break up of the picture when the action becomes very fast. Video of fast moving water seems to create the most problems for breaking up. Almost all other action is smooth. For medium and small sized rooms this 40 inch screen seems like a movie screen. After more than three years, no problems at all with this quality set.

We have been using this TV in my daughter’s room for over a year now without any problems at all. We got my 3 year-old this TV because we didn’t want the worry of her potentially pulling her former, heavy 19″ tube-television onto herself. Aside from the fact that this TV is light weight and thus very portable (and non-life threatening 
, it is very easy to use as she turns it on/off by herself.
The only criticism is that there are no actual buttons, in the traditional sense, on the TV itself. There are the symbols for Power, Volume, Ch., etc. and when you touch the symbols, they perform the function. Easy enough to do but they should be back-lit. Without the lights on, it’s very hard to find any function except for the on/off button which is the first one from the bottom up.
After months of my daughter mixing the remote with her toys, my wife and I have developed the motor skills to just “know” where to touch the TV now to perform whatever function we happen to need. But it was a bit of a nuissance in the beginning.
We currently have it connected to our Comcast cable box and a DVD player. The cable is non-HD and connected via a coaxial cable and the image looks great, not grainy or pixelated. The DVD player is non-high def. but connected with the 5 component cables as if it were high def. and the image quality is very sharp.

I love this tv. Blu-rays, HD satellite and video games look great. Had to buy a separate wireless enabler costing 80 bucks because my router was too far. I don’t use the internet option much but I’ve tried streaming movies from Amazon and Blockbuster with no problems. The PC link is great too. You must load the “PC share” CD and install to you windows OS in order to make it compatible. Screen looks great. Pictures come to life. Luckily, I’ve not experienced the problems of many reviewers here. br /br /The tv gets used about 8 hours a day, every day. 5 months later, everything still works fantastic. I especially love the usb port to allow me to share pics and vids onto the huge screen when company is over. The only minor complaint is that the tv isn’t the sturdiest thing on the base. With about 6 connections on one side of the tv, it tends to slightly lean in that direction. No biggie, but still slightly noticeable. I won’t deduct a star for it. Maybe I can place a few legos to prop it up evenly. br /br /Friends and family love the tv too. My house has now become “the place to be” when big sporting events and pay-per-view fights are happening. Although the low power consumption saves me money, I now spend a fortune on chips and dips.
