Our Olevia is 6 years old, in use everyday and still has a great picture. When we purchased it, it was half the price of the Samsungs and Sonys of the same size and the picture looked better! Its a 720p and the eye can’t tell the difference of 1080p until you get to 37″. It doesn’t have as many inputs as today’s TVs do, it only has a DVI input, not an HDMI and 2 component inputs (one HD and one 480p) as well as a cable input. I’ve used a PS3 with it as well as a Dish HD receiver. When we had cable, I used a splitter and connected one input to the HD component inputs and another to the cable and thus enabled its picture-in-a-picture function. The picture is vivid and sharp. If you can find one of these gems, I recommend buying it for a small room or bedroom.

Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Traditional television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television has either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. A 16:9 aspect ratio is widescreen and appears rectangular, which looks more like a movie screen, filling more of the viewer’s field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

Well let me begin stating that I have owned several TV’s, Im quite the Sony costumer…UNTIL I FOUND OLEVIA!!!!!!!!!!
Been a Sony owner, sometimes is difficult to find a better standard in TV’s, but my Bravia 42″ went to the toillet, last year. I thought to wait a little to see how technology developed in the HD field. I did not came to Olevia as a choice, but rather than TRY. A short Story:
After my Sony Bravia TV went to the trash(this was my bedroom TV) I did not had a tv for my Bedroom, so the same day it died, I headed to the store to purchase a new TV. I was ready for another Sony, but I went to Walmart for some ciggys, and decided to see what they have to offer in the TV market. Im a Sony Store customer, so buying from Walmart to me was kind of risky, but hey, a look don’t kill. While checking the Tv’s I saw sharp, panasonic, and some brands I have never heard of, and I came across this Olevia TV. At first I did not have heard of this brand before, but as reading on the product description on the box, well I thought, can’t be that bad, and since I was looking for a transition TV, the price was tempting. I went and bought it, without any extended guarantee, or anything. Ok, TV was heavy, unlike any other Sony TV’s I have ever own including a Trinitron 36” I had a long time ago. Well to make a long story short, this TV’ has lasted more than a year with FLAWLESS performace, using HDMI and SVIDIEO inputs. Picture STUNNING… even on S-Video connection, but I was bown away with the HDMI connection. I am very picky when it comes to picture display even thou this TV is not 1080p, the 1080i performance is incredible, picture quality and sound will get you blown! If you can find this model at a good price… you’ll not regret it!!!!!

This television is really an exceptional deal. I had been slow to upgrade to HD in the bedroom, but, after reading reviews in CR (where it was noted as a “Great Buy”) I checked it out at a local retailer. I was able to get one for under 00 and am extremely happy with it. Big, bright, clear, cheap (but not cheaply made)–everything you’d want! I especially appreciate the fact that it was surprisingly easy to set up. I don’t have a dish or cable connection in the bedroom, so, I just hooked it up to a very old antenna (probably was used to pick up Ed Sullivan) and the television automatically searched for the channels in my area and presto, up and running in literally under 5 minutes. I live approximately 50 miles from the nearest television towers and all expected channels came in perfect. I’m even receiving a number of channels that I didn’t even know where available in our area. The design is nice and understated, although the blue light on the front when the television is turned off is a bit bright for a bedroom (although I think there is a way to turn that off-just haven’t figured it out yet). Remote is very nice with soft rubbery keys that have back lighting. I think anyone would be happy with this purchase.

OK let me start out by saying that once i decided i wanted to spend alot of money on a tv, i for sure did my homework on it. and the Olevia 42″ 242t was on sale at Office Depot. I bought i over a year ao and it has worked perfectly ever since. No problems and no complaints from me. have it now hooked up to surround sound, xbox, ps2, and all and it still works great. Even leave it on at night sometimes for over a year and screen is still like the day i bought it. get one
