CHEAP Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-40S2010 40-Inch LCD HDTV

I live in a rural area, and could not get any store to deliver a television to me. Even delivery companies would not deliver a television in particular. Amazon came through with shining colors. The delivery was prompt – understand that the delivery company will CALL by telephone for an appointment. I waited for an email for longer than I had to prior to checking my phone messages, whereupon I found the Television waiting to be delivered. The service was very good, if not “white glove.” The delivery man offered to help me take the television inside, which was nice – but he’s certainly wasn’t familiar with the television set, and so I didn’t want him to hook it up.
The television arrived in in perfect shape, and performs spectacularly.
Why this set is special:
- Picture quality is superior coming from this television’s image processing software.
- Exterior of the television is matte black, not reflective lacquer like Samsung and Sharp. That reflection is distracting from the picture.
Looking at this sony as well as a Sharp and Samsung that had better specs on paper (higher resolution), this television’s picture quality was superior. The Sony has better image processing software/hardware built in so that it “cleans up” standard input signals AND cleans up compressed mpeg image quality (from less-than-perfect DVD’s). That really made the difference in my purchasing decision. The numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. When researching HD Televisions, be sure you check the type of input and ensure that the settings on the television are calibrated to that input. This is where Sony really excels.
Another commenter mentioned that standard DVD’s looked better after purchasing an “upconverting” DVD player. This is very key. The one that I have found to be close to perfect is made by Oppo :
OPPO DV-970HD Up-Converting Universal DVD Player
The connection by HDMI is also key. A lovely signal transmitting through a mediocre line is wasted.
Still, as with any HD television, the connection between the two machines must be made carefully. When I changed the output of the DVD player from 480p (standard DVD) to 720p, the image quality improved RADICALLY. – Then I looked to ensure that “noise filtering” was off (default setting is “low” ) – and once turned off (no need to filter a gorgeous signal)… the picture is flawless – well as close to that as I need. The good news is that one can save settings for a particular input. So that once you set your settings for the DVD player, you aren’t required to adjust them again. Though, DVD’s vary and changing settings accordingly may do some good.
The control menus are easy to navigate, and after a few minutes of figuring, one will be very comfortable trying this setting or that.
Overall, the television and the delivery were both superlative.
I couldn’t be happier.

This is a fantastic TV. I am thoroughly happy with it, but admit that when I first fired it up, I thought that the picture quality was terrible when compared to my other 46″ Sony LCD TV. That said, once the TV had been used for about 20 hours, it seemed to settle in nicely and I can honestly say that the picture quality met or exceeded my expectations entirely.br /br /I am not using the speakers on the TV, so I cannot speak to audio quality.br /br /The only complaint that I have is with the piano black finish, as it seems to be a magnet for dust. It is nearly impossible to keep the finish dust-free. Small gripe, so it still is worth 5 stars.

CHEAP Sony Bravia KDL-46VL160 46in LCD HDTV

Bought this TV plus Sony BDV-T11 (Blu-ray Home Theater). Now, I can put a DVD in, and it turns on TV and starts playing onscreen! No menu surfing. Very nice! Easy out-of-the-box setup. As other reviewers mentioned…Turn off light sensor!!! Sony should disable this feature. It really does make the picture quality look really bad. Thanks to previous reviewers for mentioning this. You save me hours of grief.
My main concern was reliability. I heard about most reliable being the three “S”:
-Sony
-Samsung
-Sharp
I saw too many posts mentioning Sharp power supply failures. Same for some Panasonic plasmas from last 2-3 years. Also heard some complaints about some of the Samsung models. Much less with this Sony model. So, I decided to buy it. I hope this post helps. God bless you and good luck!

CHEAP Sony Bravia M-Series KDL-32M4000 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Bought this primarily for watching HD movies and playing HD games via Xbox 360. I knew that there would be a bit of lag with it, but I had judged it to be negligible from my experiences with an LG 32″ I had. Wasn’t a good judging stick. The LG blows away the Bravia in this sense, in all others though, the Bravia comes out on top. Great picture, good color depth, nice and bright when I need it, and HD movies come out crisp and clear. However, the dark side to LCD technology is the lag that shows up when playing fast moving games. The good news, is that for a 32″ LCD, it’s actually not too bad. Right around 42ms. That can have serious consequences in an FPS style game, but once you get used to it, the lag basically disappears from your brain. Overall a great tv, well worth what I paid for it.

CHEAP Sony Bravia XBR Series KDL-52XBR7 52-Inch 240Hz 1080p LCD HDTV

This review is for the 52XBR9 and not the BR7 as viewed. Although I initially purchased the 7 model, I received an email informing me that the 7 was dis-continued and that the 9 was for a higher price (confirmed to be true), and it more features and a better engergy saver etc. So of course I upgraded. br /br /This TV is amazing in every way. I have my XBOX360, Panasonic Blue-Ray, the Patriot Box, my surround sound, and my HD TV Cable service plugged into it (ok I have a total of five controllers). Regardless to which one I use the SONY LCD 240hz 1080p TV gives me optimal performance every time. The only thing that is identified as a not needed or better yet needs improvement is the Internet via LAN line feature, I need to be able surf the net. However, I have the option of plugging my laptop into the TV, but that would make me feel too lazy, being that when I sit down utilize all other entertainment gadgets, i literally don’t have to move.

I see that there’s a newer model of this TV out right now, but hopefully this review of the older model will help those of you looking at purchasing the new model. We are continually amazed at the 1080p on this TV. We have it mounted in our game room, and we find ourselves drifting up there to watch TV instead of watching our Sony projection LCD TV (720p) in the family room. The picture looks great with Blu-Ray, as well as with our PS3 games. We’re very happy with the purchase. Amazon’s white glove delivery was also great. We were called to schedule for the delivery, and the people were on time and brought it into the house for us.
Pack in the sports, movies and games with an amazing backlit 40″ picture1, amplified and enhanced surround sound, and the convenience of sleep timer and picture freeze. Plug in your PC and up to 7 other components—including HDMI™—to create the full entertainment experience. And enjoy the quality and style that can only come from a Bravia™ TV. p Feature List bBRAVIA Engine™ Full Digital Video Processor:/b BRAVIA™ V-Series LCD televisions use Sony’s BRAVIA Engine™ full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Several special picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations and details, enhance contrast, dynamically improve color, and reduce image flicker. pbFull HD 1080:/b There are a lot of ways to define high-definition but BRAVIA Full HD means you’re getting the best resolution that high-definition has to offer consumers. With Sony BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs, Full HD 1080 means 1920 x 1080 pixels and 1080p video inputs. Your lifestyle demands the best in high-definition and with BRAVIA Full HD 1080 products you get it. pb1920 x 1080 Panel Resolution:/b When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content that can be delivered by our cutting edge 1080p Blu-ray disc™ player. And working with BRAVIA Engine™ PRO everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p for a picture so real it’s like you’re actually there. pbLive Color Creation System:/b Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it’s actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That’s what Live Color Creation is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine™ PRO video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony’s phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture itself. pbHigh Contrast Ratio:/b Sony uses a dynamic backlighting system called ACE (Advanced Contrast Enhancement) on BRAVIA V-Series TVs. ACE automatically senses the APL (Average Picture Level) of the video signal and adjusts the intensity of the backlight for improved contrast. VESA test and measurement methods are applied yielding a contrast ratio of used 7000:1. This number represents the widest possible ratio between black and white contrast levels. Sony also measures their BRAVIA televisions with a more stringent method that measures the amount of black and white levels that can appear on the screen at the same time. This method yields a more real world measurement of 1300:1 pbHDMI™ and PC Connectivity:/b Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA V-Series LCD TVs are equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide matchless image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (2) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input (HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.

I bought this TV at BH Photo for less than the S-series available at Walmart and V-series has a lot more features and capabilities than the S-series product. I am very pleased with the picture quality, sound and various features. I have watched a few fast-action movies have noticed no blurring as reported for other brands of 60Hz TV. I am also surprised that the digital out (optical) from TV connected to my audio receiver not only carries the digital sounds from DVD players, DirectV receiver, and rooftop antenna but also it appears that the analog sound from VCR is piped out of the optical digital output (I did not expect that at all). The 4-HDMI connections are more than plenty as I don’t expect to use more than 3 at the most (using only two at this time). Picture quality for SD TV is fine but HD is superb. It has the capability to adjust the backlight intensity with the lighting in the room. Oh, the most pleasing thing…I have windows facing the TV (right behind me) and even with a bright sun, I don’t see any glare on the screen (of course the shiny frame does have glare). It used to be a major problem with my old tube TV and I could not watch TV without my window shades drawn.br /br /I love the TV guide feature for off-the-air channels (if picks up TV guide coded in the signal)…amazing. PAP/PIP work only if one of the inputs is cable/antenna…so, it is somewhat limited; but I have hardly used PAP/PIP in the two weeks of owning this TV.br /br /There is one feature I wish it had: my 32″ Vizio has a “panoramic screen” option for SD channels. The panoramic screen leaves the center of the picture unchanged but stretches the content away from the center to fill the screen. Sony 4150 does not have that feature.br /br /I still cannot figure out why this TV (4150) is cheaper than 4100 even though 4150 has longer warranty (18 months as compare to 12 months). People say that 4100 and 4150 are “quite” the same except the warranty length…but I don’t know what exactly are the differences (if any, apart from the warranty length).br /br /Unfortunately, there is no description of 4150 model on the Sony website. br /br /Overall, I am please to have spend 0 more than the the Phillips 42″ TV I was seriously considering at Walmart. Sony V4150 has a lot more features and definitely far better picture and sound.
