CHEAP LG 42LH90 42-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED Backlit LCD HDTV, Glossy Black/Infused Blue

I read in the online reviews that LG had the lowest priced LED backlit HDTVs, and I also read they were some of the highest quality LCD Tvs on the market- probably second to Samsung. So I knew this is what I was looking for.br /br /As others have pointed out, it was packed very well and delivered flawlessly. It has a large bezel around the TV so it has a rather large footprint for a 42″ TV. And it has good sound for a TV, so good that an external soundbar would probably be a waste.br /br /It has a number of features you wouldn’t think about a TV having:br /-XD Engine to upscale lower definition video to look better on your high definition TVbr /-”Smart Volume” Auto Volume Leveler for those jarring commercial breaksbr /-”True voice” makes voice dialog more crisp soundingbr /-Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder with ability to downmix it for the TV’s 2 integrated (and hidden) speakersbr /br /Last, but not least, this TV is THX certified for high picture quality. Only a handful of TVs are THX certified.br /br /As [...] puts it: “THX certified displays are tested to ensure they meet or exceed specifications in two areas. One is picture quality–device performance, in THX’s words–and includes minimum specs for things like black levels, contrast, color gamut, brightness, resolution and uniformity. The other is “signal” (or video) processing, which includes things like sharpness, noise reduction, overscan, motion compensation and deinterlacing. All certified TVs are tested to make sure they meet or exceed minimum standards.”br /br /As [...] puts it: “Inside THX’s test lab, we observed their array of test signals and procedures. In addition to the legacy test signals we and other reviewers use to evaluate HDTVs, THX created some of their own patterns. THX tests signal processing, deinterlacing, color points, black levels and white levels among others criteria. They perform additional testing of display properties that are generally too time consuming or require special test equipment the HD Guru and our fellow reviewers don’t possess.”br /br /My personal test of whether a TV is high quality or not is while looking at them in the store some of them will have a pixelated, blocky look to the picture when looking up close. This one doesn’t. The picture is as sharp up close as it is from far back. The only negative I can think of is that it doesn’t turn on instantly. It takes about 20 seconds to boot up and turn on after you have hit the power button.

Purchased the LG 47LH90 from my Local Best Buy for 99 on March 1st. Television graduated off my short list after Consumer Reports raved about its bigger brother (LG 55LH90). At the time, I was torn between the Sony and Samsung comparable units.br /br /Screen Reflectivity, Performance in bright rooms and Black contrasting were my three key drivers for picking this unit. I have one of the brightest living rooms imaginable with a wall of windows over 12′ high and two sky lights all positioned right next to this television set respectively. Glare is “minimal to nonexistent” and the Local Dimming feature allows for deep and rich blacks. Color set up right out of the box by using the 6 preset configurations (Standard, Natural, THX Cinema, Sport, Game or Vivid) make set up a breeze. For all you techno-geeks out there, there are two Expert Modes where you can set up and save a couple of custom views for your future use. br /br /Remote control has direct access to all these presets through a mini pop up app that give you access to audio, video, aspect and setup functions. I will give the “LG remote control” 5 stars.br /br /Standard Definition viewing is enhanced by my Dish TV features allowing me to Stretch and Zoom the picture across the 16:9 aspect ratio screen. HD viewing ROCKS on this television. Comparable to the best plasma screens on the market with colors that are rich, vivid and bright. br /br /These particular televisions viewing angles are best in class. (Viewing Angles range from 45 degrees for optimal picture quality to 75-80 degrees with minimal video artifacts being produced).br /br /Two minor complaints driving my overall 4 star rating:br /br /A) Factory Documentation – The documentation provided by LG on this set is pretty weak in regards to software options and television functionality. Internet research quickly answered some of my questions. Television installation, set up and pivot base construction instructions were sufficient. br /br /B) Closed caption support – Closed Captioning is NOT supported with HDMI, DVI or Composite inputs and must be driven by the set top box. Wish I knew this earlier but would NOT of changed my purchasing decision.br /br /Overall, I am quite pleased with this purchase and would HIGHLY recommend it for you. br /

I have looked at so many LCD DLP televisions over the last year that my brain was becoming scrambled. I finally was ready to replace my 10 year old Hitachi 53″ in the huge monster black cabinet and wanted to make sure that that I was making the right choice of which new HD to buy. All the store employees knew me by name because I had been in so many times looking. I had pretty much settled on a Samsung 55″ and had even considered a 73″ DLP because of the bang for the buck in size. I was in Fry’s and sales rep came up to me and said I have the deal for you. He told me about the LG55LH90 with 240Hz and the high rating it had received on C-NET. He said they only had one in stock in the back room and that The LG rep had just been there and they had been authorized to offer it at a promo price of 99.00 plus a free LG Blu-ray player. I was a little leary because I was not that familiar with LG brand. I asked if I could think about it and come back next day and he said that price was a one time promo and he guaranteed I would love the TV. Boy was he right! This TV has the most awesome picture I have ever seen. I watch the same old TV shows that I have been watching for years and never knew how they should really look in HD. It’s like looking out a window, and sports, you feel as though you can reach out and touch the grass blades on the football field. Movies with the THX are unreal. As for the lip-sync issues I’ve read about I have none. I went online and bought Monster M1000 HDMI cables for .00 each instead of the 9.00 you pay in stores and have hooked up to Time Warner HD-DVR box and sound is perfect. So I guess cables do make a difference. I am very, very happy I went with this TV and especially at the price I paid as the prices now are anywhere from 00 to 00. But at any price it out performs any other TV I have seen and the matte screen eliminates most all glare in a bright room. If your looking for a great LED that will not be outdated in 6 months you will not be unhappy with this one.
