CHEAP Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black

Puchased this from Beach for 1,575, no tax free ship, best deal I have seen. Slow start to the order process but once picked up by Manna, very smooth process, delivered by two men, unboxed, inspected, they lifted it out for me. Got it hooked up and everything synced.

I have been reading prof and user reviews for weeks on this thing. Nearly spent more on a plasma but I felt I needed a bright screen due to this going into a bright room. The room area as bordered by the seating is around 13′ x 14′, with the main couch looking straight on from around 13′ feet away and a loveseat at about a 45 degree angle x 8 feet away from the screen center. The 55″ seems perfect for this space. This room flows into the kitchen area and from the kitchen table 18-20 feet away the picture is still awesome.

I compared to side-lit models and felt this screen with full backlight provided better uniformity, especially after scene changes. It seemed to me that the thinner, side-lit models took an extra second for the brightness to become uniform..I have not noticed that on this screen, scene changes even from dark to light and vice-versa seemed to adjust instantly.

I was concerned about the reflective screen as there are many windows, when the TV is off you can see everything, when on the brightness overcomes any reflection. My other concern was over viewing angle. I see no distortion, loss of color or brightness from over 60 degrees off front dead center(total 120 degree field of view) which more than covers where anyone could view this tv in my room. I spent a whopping 5 mins playing with settings and still get the “wow” factor, given time I will take a more scientific approach with the settings. This is a beautiful TV and I could not even imagine why anyone would spend an additional 1,000 to 2,000 dollars for some percieved big difference in picture quality.

I am convinced that generally, people use review forums to complain about problems, and most people do not take the time to write about good experiences. So, when you read 100 reviews you might see 20% average or poor reviews thinking 1 in 5 are unhappy, but in reality those that are happy dont bother, so, the actual % who are happy/satisfied I would bet are in the 95% range. This is true with anything you might buy.

Went to BB and a couple of other retails to see this against other models. At first I did not even look at prices, as I wanted to focus on pic quality. I did not seen anything I thought looked better.

After exhaustive review reading I do understand that a prof reviewers job it to point out flaws. CNET must have 100,000 dollars in meters, software, and gizmos to evaluate a tv screen. If you read their reviews I am not sure I feel comfortable buying anything. The flaws pointed out on this TV simply cant been seen by me, a person with high expectations and 20/20 vision at least while I wear my glasses. Maybe if you put their ,000 top pick right next to this TV I could be convinced I could be 10% happier, but for the average consumer its just not worth rediculous money. Two neighbors have walked in over the last couple days and stopped dead in their tracks looking at this picture. Sports are fluid in movement and it feels like the puck or basketball is on its way towards me on the couch.

All in all could not be happier with this TV.

For years, I’ve made do with the same early-1990s-vintage 26-inch tube television set, waiting for the day to arrive when a big television with a great picture would turn up on the market at a decent price. When buying gadgets, it’s really easy to put off a purchase by saying, “It will be better and cost less next year.” Finally I found a screen that made me say, “It will be better and cost less next year, but only a little better and a little less.” It was time to buy.br /br /The specifications for “high definition” top out at 1080p, unless one moves into the theatrical digital market. It looks like cable television signals, broadcast signals, movie discs, and other media all top out at or below 1080p right now, and that no higher-resolution media are planned for the near future. Thus a 1080p screen is as good as it needs to be for the near future.br /br /Television shows are broadcast at 30 frames per second (technically, 29.97), typically interlaced at 60 fields per second. Films are 24 frames per second. For smooth results with television media, a screen needs to run at a multiple of 60 per second. For smooth results from film, a screen needs to run at a multiple of 24 per second. A screen that runs at 120 per second (120 Hz) can show television material smoothly by repeating each field twice, and can show film smoothly by repeating each frame five times. Thus a 120 Hz screen is sufficient for optimal results with media from both television and film.br /br /As for size, bigger is better, until the screen is too large for comfortable viewing, which depends on room size and personal preference.br /br /Another consideration is inputs. This screen has five HDMI inputs, an RGB analog computer input with analog audio, an S-video input, a DTV/TV input, two component video and audio inputs, and an audio output. One of the HDMI and one of the component inputs is on the left edge (as viewed from the front) of the screen, rather than on the back. That’s a lot of inputs; it covers just about any needs I can imagine.br /br /This screen has numerous user-adjustable settings. In most cases, the defaults appear appropriate.br /br /The “picture adjustment” settings include presets for various types of source material; “standard” and “movie” seem like the most useful ones to me. I adjusted the color temperature setting.br /br /The H/V position and size settings are useful. Some television channels have a few pixel rows of jittery garbage; it’s nice to adjust the vertical position to hide them because they’re very distracting. Some channels have a few pixel columns of green on one side or the other; hiding them makes the screen look nicer.br /br /An important adjustment feature is “viewing mode”. This screen has five settings: “normal” (4:3 pictures displayed with black bars on the sides), “wide” (4:3 pictures stretched to the full width of the screen), “zoom” (widescreen pictures scaled proportionally to the full width of the screen, even if that cuts stripes off the top or bottom), “stretch” (widescreen pictures with black bars on the sides are stretched to the full width of the screen), and “panoramic” (the edges of 4:3 images are stretched, but the center is preserved un-stretched).br /br /Since this is my first high-definition screen (other than computer screens), I’m not an ideal judge of image quality in comparison to other sets. To my untrained eye, it looks great, and in the store it looked about as good as other sets of the same size.br /br /The sound quality seems good for built-in speakers, but a fancy screen like this deserves a dedicated sound system.br /br /Since this screen appears to have all the features it needs for the next few years, good quality, and a very low price, it’s a good choice — at least until something even better comes along.

Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-52XBR10 – 52″ BRAVIA XBR LCD TV with wireless media receiver – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – LED Backlight technology – HDTV – black

CHEAP Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-52XBR10 – 52″ BRAVIA XBR LCD TV with wireless media receiver – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – LED Backlight technology – HDTV – black

I’ve had the set for 30 days now. I had some early concerns on the whole Edge-Lighting thing but they turned out to be frivolous. The picture has been outstanding. Played Dark Knight and Underworld, and the set handled the contrasts and deep blacks superbly.

The thin design is a work of art. My set sits on a console (not mounted) and sets the room off nicely; no visible wires and elegant design.

The streaming functions are a nice feature; good integration with Amazon and Netflix. However, I’m pouzzled as to why there doesn’t appear to be a way to access free internet content via portals like Hulu, TV network sites and such, without a laptop. (Or I haven’t figured it out yet.)

One mild annoyance that has more to do with Sony than the XBR10: No wireless internet dongle available from Sony. The Samsung version only works with Samsung products. So if you don’t have a Ethernet port nearby, you’ll need a wireless bridge to use a wireless home network.

The number one reason why I got this unit was for the size and the wireless HD capabilities.br /I hang this unit over the fireplace with Sanus VMPL50B wallmount. br /The TV is about 60lbs, so you will need a friend to help you hang it up on the wall.br /The screws for wall mounting was already attach to the TV which was great.br /Once I have on the wall and after I plug in the power behind the TV, NO MORE other wires are needed. I put the wireless media box which came with the set about 10 feet away with no direct line of sight and was able to show HD tv with great clarity WIRELESSly… this is a great feature.br /br /I have wireless phone, internet and head sets which did not cause any interference with this TV.br /br /The 55LHX’s lg logo on the TV is where the TV’s receiver is, so if you stand right in front, you will see some static or no picture as you are no blocking the signal. But, I will know to avoid to stand right in front of the TV :) br /br /The viewing angle is good, I tilt it downwards about 12 degrees for less glare. The TV screen do not reflect much, but the black frame does.br /br /Just a note, with the 240HZ True motion on, sports looks very life like; but on movies it looks 3D ish, so shut I had to shut it off. Now I know why a 240Hz tv can possibly view 3d movies.br /br /I have a Pioneer plasma which still looks way better than this TV, but this TV is as good if not better than my sharp Aquos. So, maybe its a settings thing.br /br /There are lots of settings, but I have yet to find the best one, so please leave me a comment if you know what the best settings are….br /br /br /br /GL.

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black

CHEAP Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U 55-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with LED Backlight and ClearScan 240, Black

I have had this Toshiba 55SV670U for about one week. My decesion to pick this set over the Samsung 7100, Samsung 950, Sony XBR8 and LGH90 did not come without a carefull examination of the picture quality on all the sets. (I eliminated plasmas as they appeared rather dim to me.) br /br /My desire was high brightness, sharpness and high contrast ratios. The weight and thickness was not that important as I only planned on moving this set once or twice. I will be looking at the picture more often than looking at the side view. br /br /br /This model Toshiba is now using a similiar front layer as Samsungs and it has improved the contrast ratio signifiantly. The blacks are much darker using this front material. I know it will reflect lights from behind me, but I’ll block the window with a shade…. I would rather have that problem 10 % of the time than have the matte finish distort the picture 100 % of the time. br /br /br /The only way to improve contrast ratio is to locally dim. All the above do locally dim except the Samsung 7100. I questioned how the Samsung 7100 could have a single backlight and be able to make selected areas blacker. I found this Samsung set to have a slight blue hue over the whole picture. However, the Samsung 7100 would have been my second choice. br /br /The Sony XBR8 and the Samsung 950 had the best pictures – just too expensive for the RGB backlighting and Just not worth br /$ 1500 to $ 2000 more to me. br /br /br /The Toshiba 55SV670U gave me the local dimming, an anti-reflective coated contrast window, 120 HZ scan rate and a bright long lasting LED display. I am completelty satisfied with this set…. and with and with its much lower selling price. br /br /Drop in Mr and Mrs Smith in Blu Ray and you will ever regret purchasing this Toshiba br /br /br /br /
