CHEAP Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-40S2010 40-Inch LCD HDTV

I live in a rural area, and could not get any store to deliver a television to me. Even delivery companies would not deliver a television in particular. Amazon came through with shining colors. The delivery was prompt – understand that the delivery company will CALL by telephone for an appointment. I waited for an email for longer than I had to prior to checking my phone messages, whereupon I found the Television waiting to be delivered. The service was very good, if not “white glove.” The delivery man offered to help me take the television inside, which was nice – but he’s certainly wasn’t familiar with the television set, and so I didn’t want him to hook it up.
The television arrived in in perfect shape, and performs spectacularly.
Why this set is special:
- Picture quality is superior coming from this television’s image processing software.
- Exterior of the television is matte black, not reflective lacquer like Samsung and Sharp. That reflection is distracting from the picture.
Looking at this sony as well as a Sharp and Samsung that had better specs on paper (higher resolution), this television’s picture quality was superior. The Sony has better image processing software/hardware built in so that it “cleans up” standard input signals AND cleans up compressed mpeg image quality (from less-than-perfect DVD’s). That really made the difference in my purchasing decision. The numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. When researching HD Televisions, be sure you check the type of input and ensure that the settings on the television are calibrated to that input. This is where Sony really excels.
Another commenter mentioned that standard DVD’s looked better after purchasing an “upconverting” DVD player. This is very key. The one that I have found to be close to perfect is made by Oppo :
OPPO DV-970HD Up-Converting Universal DVD Player
The connection by HDMI is also key. A lovely signal transmitting through a mediocre line is wasted.
Still, as with any HD television, the connection between the two machines must be made carefully. When I changed the output of the DVD player from 480p (standard DVD) to 720p, the image quality improved RADICALLY. – Then I looked to ensure that “noise filtering” was off (default setting is “low” ) – and once turned off (no need to filter a gorgeous signal)… the picture is flawless – well as close to that as I need. The good news is that one can save settings for a particular input. So that once you set your settings for the DVD player, you aren’t required to adjust them again. Though, DVD’s vary and changing settings accordingly may do some good.
The control menus are easy to navigate, and after a few minutes of figuring, one will be very comfortable trying this setting or that.
Overall, the television and the delivery were both superlative.
I couldn’t be happier.

Great tv as expected. I don’t know about you guys but buying such an expensive television online (not tangible) made me very nervous. The price vs. risk/reward was worth it and so far it has worked out perfectly. I saved 5-600 dollars buying from Amazon over the local CC or BB. Bought a Peerless mount from Mounts and More, hung it up and it looks incredible. Standard def programs look very good considering it is a 1080p high def tv trying to process and display a regular crappy cable signal. I truely believe for the price I paid it is the best bang for the buck in the 40″ lcd category. I sit approximately 10-16 feet from the set and it is plenty big. I personally think people are buying much bigger TV than they need, and what they don’t realize is that with most HD big screen tv’s (40 and up), the picture is pretty fuzzy from close up. Some of manufacturer’s viewing distances are a bit low in my opinion. If you’re getting a 50 or bigger, you better be sitting 15 feet away at the closest spot. Anyway, this Sammy is really a good piece of work – quick changes between inputs, razor sharp hd picture, nearly equally sharp standard dvd picture(pscan), and very good standard def picture. Picture and picture is great – I can watch one half from the digi cable box and on the other half is the standard cable picture per a splitter. It only has 1 tuner but that’s all you need for most PIP users. Remote is good, but I don’t use it. I use my receiver remote that learns keys. It starts up very quick compared to my dad’s lcd rear projection – 3 seconds after hitting the on switch and it is running full blast. Sad thing is, this review will probably be worthless because this set is almost obsolete since Sammy’s new models just came out a month or 2 ago. But if you can find one I wouldn’t hesitate. I’ve had it for 2.5 months and it’s smooth sailing so far. I’m hoping the 50,000 hour life span estimate is accurate so in 2022 I’ll still be enjoying it (yea right).

With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. p If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. ulliMinimum size = Viewing distance/3/liliMaximum size=Viewing distance/1.5/li/ul/td/tr/tbody/table

CHEAP Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-40V2500 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I see that there’s a newer model of this TV out right now, but hopefully this review of the older model will help those of you looking at purchasing the new model. We are continually amazed at the 1080p on this TV. We have it mounted in our game room, and we find ourselves drifting up there to watch TV instead of watching our Sony projection LCD TV (720p) in the family room. The picture looks great with Blu-Ray, as well as with our PS3 games. We’re very happy with the purchase. Amazon’s white glove delivery was also great. We were called to schedule for the delivery, and the people were on time and brought it into the house for us.
Pack in the sports, movies and games with an amazing backlit 40″ picture1, amplified and enhanced surround sound, and the convenience of sleep timer and picture freeze. Plug in your PC and up to 7 other components—including HDMI™—to create the full entertainment experience. And enjoy the quality and style that can only come from a Bravia™ TV. p Feature List bBRAVIA Engine™ Full Digital Video Processor:/b BRAVIA™ V-Series LCD televisions use Sony’s BRAVIA Engine™ full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Several special picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations and details, enhance contrast, dynamically improve color, and reduce image flicker. pbFull HD 1080:/b There are a lot of ways to define high-definition but BRAVIA Full HD means you’re getting the best resolution that high-definition has to offer consumers. With Sony BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs, Full HD 1080 means 1920 x 1080 pixels and 1080p video inputs. Your lifestyle demands the best in high-definition and with BRAVIA Full HD 1080 products you get it. pb1920 x 1080 Panel Resolution:/b When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content that can be delivered by our cutting edge 1080p Blu-ray disc™ player. And working with BRAVIA Engine™ PRO everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p for a picture so real it’s like you’re actually there. pbLive Color Creation System:/b Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it’s actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That’s what Live Color Creation is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine™ PRO video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony’s phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture itself. pbHigh Contrast Ratio:/b Sony uses a dynamic backlighting system called ACE (Advanced Contrast Enhancement) on BRAVIA V-Series TVs. ACE automatically senses the APL (Average Picture Level) of the video signal and adjusts the intensity of the backlight for improved contrast. VESA test and measurement methods are applied yielding a contrast ratio of used 7000:1. This number represents the widest possible ratio between black and white contrast levels. Sony also measures their BRAVIA televisions with a more stringent method that measures the amount of black and white levels that can appear on the screen at the same time. This method yields a more real world measurement of 1300:1 pbHDMI™ and PC Connectivity:/b Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA V-Series LCD TVs are equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide matchless image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (2) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input (HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.

This LCD has one of the most attractive pictures with rich colors and excellent contrast ratios compared to any of the other LCD brands . Menus are fairly intuitive to use to make adjustments and set ups. Like any LCD there is a slight break up of the picture when the action becomes very fast. Video of fast moving water seems to create the most problems for breaking up. Almost all other action is smooth. For medium and small sized rooms this 40 inch screen seems like a movie screen. After more than three years, no problems at all with this quality set.
