I have had this since 3/08/09 we watch it alot. It is on about 12 hours a day. (we work from home we keep it on all the time, whether we are watching it or not) It is GREAT..we have no complaints. The picture quality color is A+++. The sound is fine. It does take a few seconds for the picture to come on while changing channels, but so what, whats 2 or 3 seconds. It’s great in regular LCD digital channels, but when I switch it to HDTV..OMG..the picture is superb. One feature we love is when you MUTE it..it “half mutes” on the first click, meaning it goes alot lower in volume yet not totally muted, Than when I click again, it’s totally muted. I recommend this Toshiba 32″ TV to everyone who wants a great TV at a great price. We also have 2 more TV’s..a superb SCEPTRE a superb Sharp 32″ LCD HDTV, yet the Toshiba has us hooked. It is a bit better than our Sceptre Sharp. I will buy another one soon.

I dont know how much this will matter, since this TV was released years ago, but I bought mine the day after Thanksgiving in 2006. I have loved it ever since, and have never had any problems. A family friend is looking to upgrade from a CRT to an LCD, and in helping them look online and in stores (they only want a 32″ and would prefer staying under 0)I am seeing todays “new” TVs coming out with worse secs than this television! I just bought the Samsung LN52A650 this past weekend, so I will most likey part ways with this terrific set since I am no longer using it, and it will give them a TV for less than current market ones with better performance than they can find in their price range.

When I decided to get an LCD TV, I shopped on line a bit and settled on this one, thinking the Sharp name would be enough to ensure a decent product. I am more than pleased with my decision. The picture on this TV, even with just rabbit ears, is outstanding. The sound is excellent, too, which is something I was worried about with a flat panel; however, I was pleasantly surprised.
I chose this model because of the 1080 resolution and the cabinet style, which I think is the most attractive out there for TVs of this type. The base allows the panel to rotate about 110 degrees, which is very nice and not particularly common with these things. I bought the red one (it’s really more burgundy, but that’s hard to tell from the pictures), and am glad I got such a unique set; it matches my crib. The auto brightness feature is great, especially for a bedroom, where I use my TV. Setup was easy and virtually everything is pretty intuitive without having to read the manual.
The cons are: cheesy remote with cheap feel and poor key layout (I bought a Sharp blu-ray at same time, and it came with much more functional remote with better feel); the fact that you have to toggle thru inputs on remote (see other reviews); on-screen display of menu items is too small, although it is neatly laid out. Although it offers stereo audio and subwoofer line-level outputs, I don’t like the switching on these. I want to use the TV’s speakers along with my stereo; I can do this, but I am not able to control output level to stereo (stereo volume) from TV as switching to variable line level output on TV turns off the TV speakers, which I need for realistic sound staging. I know they did this because they think this is what most people would want, but not I. Seems like a simple firmware matter to offer one more selection for audio output configuration.
Overall, though, I’m highly pleased. For years I lived without a TV (by choice) and then with only rabbit ears. I’ve already tried the digital converter box (govt. cheese) on my old tube set and the reception was poor (unlike this TV, which is great with just rabbit ears). So I caved in and did what Big Brother hoped I would with the digital switch: bought a new tv and signed up for pay service, which I’m getting next month. Next year if I find I’m watching enough to justify it, I’ll move this set to the kithcen/office and buy a bigger LCD for the bedroom, probably for less than what I paid for this one (about 0 from Amazon in early December 2008).

Bought this primarily for watching HD movies and playing HD games via Xbox 360. I knew that there would be a bit of lag with it, but I had judged it to be negligible from my experiences with an LG 32″ I had. Wasn’t a good judging stick. The LG blows away the Bravia in this sense, in all others though, the Bravia comes out on top. Great picture, good color depth, nice and bright when I need it, and HD movies come out crisp and clear. However, the dark side to LCD technology is the lag that shows up when playing fast moving games. The good news, is that for a 32″ LCD, it’s actually not too bad. Right around 42ms. That can have serious consequences in an FPS style game, but once you get used to it, the lag basically disappears from your brain. Overall a great tv, well worth what I paid for it.

If Philips paid more attention to the firmware on this TV, it would be a must buy. The extra picture enhancement features they offer on this TV are a big fat joke. Nearly every corrective or enhancing option causes skin tones to become red. The picture setup assistant lets you choose the picture much like the optometrist determines your prescription, but the end result is always horrible. You’re better off googling the optimal settings for picture quality. The only “extra” feature I use is the 120hz option, which makes movement seem very life-like.br /br /When you fiddle with the settings enough to get a good picture, it actually does a very good job. Colors are vibrant and everything is very sharp in HD. However, I run into two consistent issues, the black levels are not great and there is a very slight delay in the signal reaching the TV. The first issue wasn’t such a huge deal to me because my last TV wasn’t really that great with black levels either. The second issue isn’t an issue unless you play video games, which I do. The delay is a problem in rhythm games where timing must be precise. Fortunately most games have options to compensate for this, and most games you don’t even notice the delay, but it’s something to be aware of. On the other hand, first person shooter games don’t suffer too badly.br /br /Not much to say about the sound as I don’t use the internal speakers. They’re not mind blowing, but not bad either. The most irritating part about sound on this TV is the fact that the mute button is disabled if you use the headphone jack for your speakers.br /br /A couple miscellaneous notes: the info button on the remote is pathetic. Again, if Philips invested more in the software this could be a great TV. My tiny 22″ LG TV provides more information about a TV program (like the start and end times, progress of the program, etc.) than this 32″ TV does. I also upgraded my firmware as soon as I unpacked the TV. I am using 1.08 I believe.br /br /I’m still satisfied with this TV because I didn’t have to pay tax or shipping, but you might not be if you’re really picky about your TVs.

I am not an expert on LCD televisions, just someone in need of a new TV. It will ultimately be used in the bedroom, but for now it is in the family room. Although it is not a huge room, it opens to the kitchen and the ceiling is vaulted. For months I studied reviews of different models on the internet hoping to at least discover which manufacturers had the most service problems to avoid that aggravation, along with which brand had the best rated picture quality. I also visited showrooms to see what looked best to my eye.br /br /After my research I narrowed my search to a 720p TV because although 1080p of course creates a higher quality picture, it isn’t as critical on a 32 inch TV or smaller. Since new televisions usually appear in March, my plan was to buy a discontinued model and take advantage of clearance pricing. Unfortunately I waited too long and the two choices I’d focused on were both no longer available. This TV met my needs, the price was right and Panasonic was one of the two brands I’d settled on. br /br /Light weight and easy to handle, out of the box all that was necessary was putting the stand together with a few screws and then attaching it with a few more to the television. I already had a composite video/audio cable which is good because Panasonic doesn’t include one. The cable consists of three male plugs on each end — one red, one white and one yellow. The red and white are for right and left audio and the yellow is video. There are ports on the back of the cable box and the TV with the same colors so it was easy to connect – video out on the cable box and video in on the TV. An extra step I took, in order to get my local stations’ HD programs, was to hook up a basic inside antenna by screwing the antenna cable into the same named jack on the back of the TV. That gave me two advantages – I can see the HD content in full HD without increasing the cost of my basic cable plan – and if the cable goes out I can still watch TV. br /br /I put the batteries(included) into the remote control and turned the TV on. The first screen asked for language preference (English, Spanish or French), next the option to select viewing mode – home use or store demonstration. Then the adjust picture screen came up and I left it at the default “vivid” (choices are vivid, standard, cinema, game or custom.) The darkness of your room will dictate what looks best, and the defaults are easy to change by clicking on the remote — menu, tools, re-set to defaults. Then it goes to auto channel set-up, but if you are using a cable box you select “not used.” If using an antenna, select “antenna” and then select “start” to scan the channels. Next is an option to label each of the inputs for – antenna, DVD player, cable box, etc. Then a screen appears to adjust the clock for the year, month, day hour and minute. The completion message is then displayed and you’re done.br /br /The TV can be hooked-up to a PC so it can be used as a monitor. I missed an episode of 24 during the Olympics. The network website permits viewing of the current season’s episodes so I simply connected the HDMI cable from my laptop PC into the television’s HDMI port on the back. That allowed me to watch the missed episode on TV rather than my small laptop screen.br /br /The speakers are one-way 10 watt speakers and are typical of built-in television speakers. Note that there is no analog audio output or headphone jack. There is an optical digital audio output jack. I did not hook-up a receiver and separate speakers to improve the audio, at least not yet, but if superior sound is a concern, you will probably want to explore the possibilities. br /br /The picture is absolutely fabulous and amazingly enough even when viewed at a severe angle, there is no quality degradation. My only complaint is that the volume doesn’t change significantly as you increase it. The TV has an adequate maximum volume setting, but if the setting is at 30 and you want it a little louder you might have to go to 60 before you notice an increase in sound. The increments seem too small. br /br /The TV has a shiny “piano” black case which some people feel is a maintenance problem, but fingerprints and dust wipe up beautifully with a microfiber cloth, and I like the appearance.br /br /The set comes with a twelve month warranty, but I bought an extended warranty for an extra two years from square trade since this is a new model and as such has no history. I have been using the set for two weeks and so far it is completely trouble free, and I am very pleased with the purchase, but I will update the review if I experience any problems.br /
