Haier HLTD7 7-Inch Handheld HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black

CHEAP Haier HLTD7 7-Inch Handheld HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black

Great set with wonderful picture. Sound is weak so I added Bose Music Monitor speakers and that completely solved that problem (connected to earphone jack). Internal speakers are OK while on the go. This set is identical to one sold by Supersonic but picture quality of Haier is superior. DVD works well. Remote is well laid out and superior to the one that came with the Supersonic. The antenna connection is recessed and diffacult to get to without a wrench. I added a 90 degree screw adapter from Radio Shack and now the connection is easyly made.

Love the dvd feature and added Bose speakers for home use. Set is easy to operate and quality superior to Supersonic.

PLEASE NOTE: Set is black and much better looking than the picture showen. I have two of these units and use one everyday in my bedroom.

In my area an external antenna is required —- I use the internal/external DIRECTIONAL dish from Radio Shack—cost about .00.

VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV

CHEAP VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV

I bought this tv about a week ago and have been really pleased. I previously had a 37″ sharp 720p 60hz, and did not like it at all. Well after much research I had narrowed it down the Samsung LN46B750. Only problem is that tv is 00+ dollars. So I wanted another choice and researched and for the price and quality, this Vizio is a no brainer. This XVT is Vizio’s best model other than their new 55″ LED.br /br /Appearance: It looks really nice. Simple, clean, black and silver. Some people hate that the vizio light will stay orange when the tv turns off but its not really noticeable and doesn’t bother me at all.br /br /Sound: Definitely better than my old Sharp, but still nothing to write home about. I have some really nice Logitech 2.1 speakers I use if i’m really wanting the theatre experience but the built in speakers are fine.br /br /Picture quality: This is where I was a HUGE stickler. I wanted at least 120hz, 1080p, and 4ms response time as I’m a gamer. Well this tv has all of those and even goes to 240 with the scanning backlight. The smooth motion when enabled (recommended low) is a little jarring at first, but you quickly get used to it. Not only does smooth motion help with blur, it seems to just make the entire image on screen more crisp whether its moving or not. Very pleased. Watching Dexter on showtime hd was AMAZING! The detail in the intro is just jaw dropping. And this is only in 1080i. Xbox 360 really shows how crisp it can really get. I thought Dexter details were amazing, I hadn’t seen nothing until I popped in Modern Warfare 2. Its a sight to be seen. The smooth motion works beautifully on videogames. No problems with blurring at all. Very rarely will there be any judder problems and even when you see a hiccup its for like 1 second, my wife never notices it. Hopefully getting a PS3 soon and check out blurays. But if the other content is any indication of what to expect, it will be great. I just can’t imagine it getting any better. We’ll see.br /br /Cons: As with all tv’s there are always some quirks. I did notice the faintest of flash lighting at the top of the screen in a tiny small area. This is a problem with MANY LCD tvs and is really only noticeable when the screen is completely black, even then its barely noticeable. I only notice it cause I set out looking for these things. Compared to the flash lighting and clouding I’ve seen on some tvs, this one if by far and away one of the better. DO NOT at all let this problem scare you as all tv’s are different and some may not have it at all. PLUS most tvs need 50-100 hours of break in time to fully get everything warmed up so most likely it will fade. Even still my wife can’t see what I’m talking about lol.br /br /Conclusion: For the price and quality, bar none the best deal you are gonna find for a while. I was able to snag mine at SAMS for 7. 360 PS3 users, you will not be disappointed. Will update after I’ve had it for a while! br /br /br /UPDATE: 12/28/2009br /br /Well I got a PS3 for christmas and got to see if blurays were any better than hd cable I had been viewing. I have to admit it looks incredible and does indeed look better. I got my wife the Harry Potter bluray collection, and we popped them in, absolutely CRYSTAL CLEAR. Sharp as can be, great colors. So yes, it did indeed get better than I thought. The tv handled the bluray beautifully with its motion and the colors looked dead on.br /br /Also the flashlighting I mentioned earlier in my review has subsided quite a bit and I have to really set there and stare at the blank screen to even be able to see it, so that is good news as well.br /br /Once again I 100% recommend this TV! Thanks for reading and hope I was a bit helpful in your search.

Sharp LC26DV22U 26-Inch LCD TV with Built-In DVD Player

CHEAP Sharp LC26DV22U 26-Inch LCD TV with Built-In DVD Player

I bought this set to hang on the kitchen wall. The convenience of a combined DVD was a major factor in the purchase decision. I’d read the reports criticizing the audio but decided to take a chance and buy it anyway – and I’m glad I did. The audio seems OK to me. Half-volume at 13′ away across the other side of the kitchen is more than adequate. Audio quality is also fine. Anywhere near full volume is way too loud. I really don’t know what the complaints are about – volume? audio quality? or both? The picture quality is also superb as is often the case with Sharp and the DVD is so user-friendly it’s a pleasure to use.

Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR6 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV

CHEAP Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR6 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV

I purchased this TV for about 00 along with a free Sony Blu Ray BDS350 from Circuit City’s going-out-of-business sale in Jan 2009. The TV is great and I recommend it highly. HD and blu ray blew me away. I went back within the 30-day limit and bought Circuit City’s 3-year warranty for 0+, as I kept getting told that things can go wrong with these big LCD’s. I was told that the CC warranty covered more than the usual things, and that they would often simply replace the defective TV with no hassle.

On April 22, 2009, I reported Mura (clouding), which had a flashlight effect from six points on the sides of the screen. It doesn’t show during TV viewing except during very dark scenes, and became more annoying to me as time went on. I first called the Circuit City warranty guys thinking the set might just get promptly replaced, but no such luck. They immediately turned me over to Sony saying “the one-year Sony warranty is in effect.” (My receipt for the CC warranty shows it began at date of purchase and ends Jan. 2012, so apparently, in reality, I bought a 2-year warranty not a 3-year, and paid 0+.) Sony dispatched their repairman who came and looked it over on an early Sat. morning when the TV was not warmed up enough for the problem to show. He believed that, and said he would come back. He told me Sony needs proof of a problem and to try to get pics of it so, not owning a camera, I bought a drug store instant camera which did get sharp pics of the TV screen with or without flash. But it just picked up the TV with its black screen with none of the white clouding showing on the snapshots. The repairman, thankfully, did bring a “real” camera on his next visit, took pics and left with the promise that Sony would call me in about 5 business days with the verdict. By June 17, they still had not called, so I called them and was informed that they did have a new back panel on back order and would call me for an appointment when it came in. It might take weeks. Then, a few days later they called me because they had the part. They promptly came and tried to install it — taking ALL the guts out of the TV, unplugging all the wiring inside it, EVERYTHING, down to the plain black frame itself, then went to replace the panel but found they had ordered the wrong panel. They put everything back together OK, and I’m still awaiting the correct replacement panel.

I asked while they were working, “what if the new panel is the same way?” and they said “then, that’s how it will have to be I guess.” So, I think in that case I would try to go after the CC guys and threaten to make the warranty a disputed charge on my credit card unless they do something, but we’ll see.

I’ll update this review when I get the new panel.

here is my update: I got the correct new panel put in on 7/28/09 (which is actually a substitute panel for the original, which is no longer made). It worked perfectly and gorgeously the first day and I thought my problems were over. However, by the second evening, when the TV was very warmed up, there was the same problem again that I had originally reported, only with slightly different light-shapes along the sides of the screen, but just as severe as before. So, now will begin a new process of dealing with Sony and/or Circuit City Warranty people to perhaps install yet another panel, get a replacement of the TV, or get a refund of the original purchase price. I love the TV better than all others I’ve seen. I just hate the problem. If they will refund me, though, I will buy something else, perhaps I guess, plasma.

8/7/09 – I called Sony Customer Relations to inform them that the new panel did not work, but before I could say anything, the guy seemed unaware that the panel had been replaced and offered me a replacement of the same exact model 52″ XBR6, but “refurbished.” I then called Assurant Consumer Relations (they have taken over Circuit City warranties) and was run all around hell trying to talk to them about whether a replacement TV would cancel my Circuit City three-year warranty. First person: we don’t take care of that, call contract sales (I did – they have nothing to do with this problem, “Consumer Relations is supposed to help you!”). 2nd person: “No way will the warranty be in effect any more! Are you crazy or something?” I tried once more. 3rd person: A very helpful experienced-sounding guy — “No, it shouldn’t effect the warranty at all. I only have to put a note on my computer that the MANUFACTURER is replacing it with the EXACT SAME MODEL, and that I have reassured you the warranty is still in effect.” Sony had also said the same thing about their one-year coverage. So, I called Sony back and agreed to the deal. They will be delivering the new TV in several days. The helpful guy at Assurant also mentioned that the refurbished TV is probably just part of a recall for a defective part which has now been fixed and thus it is probably not used but brand new. This makes me hopeful, as maybe if it was manufactured at an earlier time, it could be a better (?) model?….??? We’ll see.

8/21/09 – The saga continues. It’s too bad that Sony isn’t producing up to par, as I’ve heard the XBR9 has the same problem. They replaced my TV with the refurbished new one, and, sure enough, the same problem showed up within 24 hours. Only a little worse, since there is at least one splotch of white cloud even in the middle of the screen. I don’t think they can fix it. A refund might be in order, but it seems they will only give a partial to account for “depreciation” even though I first reported it within 90 days of purchase, and it has taken me 4 months to get this far… I’m wishing I kept the first one with the new panel.

9/09 – Sony replaced my TV with another identical model, this time it came with an older style (but correct) remote for this TV. I guess that might mean it’s one of the first 52XBR6’s to be manufactured. There is NO MURA. It is now November 17, 2009 and still a good, black screen, with, if I am precise, the teeny-tiniest bit of mura, but no distraction at all. Now I feel I (finally) lucked out. Phew!!!

Samsung LN46A950 46 inch Full HD 1080p 120Hz LED LCD HDTV

CHEAP Samsung LN46A950 46 inch Full HD 1080p 120Hz LED LCD HDTV

I have been “watching” the Samsung LN55A950 for a long time now and decided to “pounce” now that it is being discontinued. Will not repeat all the very helpful comments across many websites that state this is one of the best TVs out there. But be careful as those made before September 20, 2008 have a prior firmware version as well as older hardware (longer story — see AV forum) and I wasted a lot of time (with Samsung) trying to decipher the Serial Number on the box being held for me. (Turned out that mine was February 2009, so I’m in good shape) It is totally wonderful to watch and now quite well priced IF you can find it. The 55 inch is the most difficult to find but PC Richards in New York, New Jersey still have a few left. So go get one, you will not be sorry!

Samsung LN46B650 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

CHEAP Samsung LN46B650 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

I purchased this Samsung LCD TV in December 2009 so have been enjoying it for about a month now. As everyone attests the HD picture is superb. Switching back between standard def and high def cbannels is like night and day. The remote is very funtionally laid out and easy to navigate. Our Wii game system looks fantastic on it and makes playing those games even better. DVD movies are sharp but should look even better when I decide on purhasing either a BD player or upconvert DVD player. Connectivity options are plentiful as you there are four HDMI inputs and switching sources is a breeze – the onscreen menu shows what is connected and you can edit the names of these too. This TV comes preloaded with “content” including children’s stories, cooking recipes, and other items. As of 27 Jan 10, Samsung had not yet published any new content for downloading on their website. I did purchase the Samsung USB LAN adapter and it works well. It allows you to use the Internet TV feature which loads various widgets, including Yahoo weather, sports, finance, Videos, You Tube, CBS etc. As stated in previous reviews these are quite slow in loading but once loaded are fairly easy to navigate. While loading the picture reduces in size and the widget creates a window to the left side of the screen. The You Tube widget cuts off the channel you’re watching and goes directly to full screen. In addition, once you load the included Samsung PC Share Manager Software CD on your pc and select picture/videos/music folders to share, you can stream these for viewing on the tv…nice! One of the best shall we say “Low-tech” features I really like about this TV is the swivel stand which allows you to of course swivel the tv in either direction..this is great to view the tv from our kitchen. Overall I’m quite pleased with this Samsung and would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new flat screen.
