We purchased this tv so that we didn’t have to have a dvd player cluttering our bedroom. It works great so far and even though we have windows across from the tv it does not glare so you can still see the picture. The price was perfect so we are very happy. The drawback for some would be that it’s not a narrow design because the dvd goes straight into the front.

I’ve had the set for 30 days now. I had some early concerns on the whole Edge-Lighting thing but they turned out to be frivolous. The picture has been outstanding. Played Dark Knight and Underworld, and the set handled the contrasts and deep blacks superbly.
The thin design is a work of art. My set sits on a console (not mounted) and sets the room off nicely; no visible wires and elegant design.
The streaming functions are a nice feature; good integration with Amazon and Netflix. However, I’m pouzzled as to why there doesn’t appear to be a way to access free internet content via portals like Hulu, TV network sites and such, without a laptop. (Or I haven’t figured it out yet.)
One mild annoyance that has more to do with Sony than the XBR10: No wireless internet dongle available from Sony. The Samsung version only works with Samsung products. So if you don’t have a Ethernet port nearby, you’ll need a wireless bridge to use a wireless home network.

When over-the-air digital TV became the law of the land, I decided to replace the 13″ CRT TV in my bedroom with a small widescreen LCD set, and after much research selected this Vizio VA19L. I’m satisfied I couldn’t have made a better choice.
My old CRT set with an indoor antenna never delivered anything but two VHF channels, one pretty well and the other just barely watchable. Since it didn’t give me any UHF whatever, I was concerned about whether I’d get anything on OTA digital since that uses UHF frequencies. To my pleasant surprise, this Vizio on an indoor antenna gives me 17 digital channels in excellent quality, five of them HD. And standard 480i programming looks great on it too, which is certainly not true of all HDTVs.
It also replaces the 19″ widescreen monitor I had on the computer cart beside my bed. The TV’s 1366×768 resolution does not exactly match any standard computer resolution, but again to my surprise, the old Radeon 9600 graphics card in my small form factor system provides 1360×768 which fills the screen perfectly while properly maintaining aspect ratio. And I find my Samsung NC10 netbook does also, though I don’t really expect to use that much with the Vizio.
Reading other reviews here I see a number of users complaining about the sound quality and angle of view. I think the sound is just fine for a small set, speech is nice and clear, and since I’m hard of hearing I would sure notice it if it weren’t. As for angle of view, perhaps those complaining were used to CRTs. Of course all LCD flat panels have noticeable light fall-off when viewed from an extreme angle, and I have seen some laptop monitors where this was very bad, but the Vizio is just fine as far as I’m concerned — seems about as good to me as the 32″ Samsung I have in the living room.
There are even a few things that I like a lot better than the bigger set. On my Samsung there’s just one button for changing inputs, which means you have to cycle through several to change from TV to DVD player and/or whatever else you have connected. On this Vizio there’s a separate button on the remote for each input, which is much more convenient. Also, the Guide button on the remote brings up brief program info not only about what’s playing now, but also what’s on the schedule for several hours ahead. This is very handy, though I suppose it may depend on the particular stations in your area — I don’t know if it does this on cable also since I don’t use this TV on cable.
I’ve had this Vizio now for about seven months, no problems of any kind, and it gets an easy five stars from me. I like it so much I’m just about to order the 22″ Vizio VA220E which seems identical except for screen size, for my home office.

Got from Newegg. Shipping & tax incl. 9. Great price if the set lasts.I realize that Sceptre isn’t a “major” brand, but all TVs are made in third world countries, so there can’t be much difference in the insides for the same priced units. So far it works great with no apparent dead pixels.(how do ya tell?) Got a special on a HD cable box for a yr. and then may hook an over the air antenna for HD channels. I assume you would need a splitter to connect the cable line and some rabbit ears for the over the air HD channels. Remote is ok but small. As I’m not using a bunch of extras, it’s fine. Channels easy to change, and goes from HD to reg. very easy. Sound doesn’t get very loud, but just enough to hear normal audio. Try one. Should be fine!

Purchased for my bedroom and its the perfect size, not too big, not too small. The picture comes in nice and clear on the HD channels. On non-hd channels it looks pretty “meh” but I think that is expected. Only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is because I haven’t quite hooked it up to full HD to see it’s full potential. As of now, I only get in like 3 or 4 HD channels and they come in real clear. A far improvement over non-HD and gets a better picture than the other HD tv in my house. The tv also has some nice features like favorite channels. I can just hit that button it flips through my favorites. So far only complaint is it takes like 3 seconds to cut on, which seems slow compared to regular TV that take only take a second. I think this might just be how these TVs are b/c the other HD tv in the house does the same thing.

This television is really an exceptional deal. I had been slow to upgrade to HD in the bedroom, but, after reading reviews in CR (where it was noted as a “Great Buy”) I checked it out at a local retailer. I was able to get one for under 00 and am extremely happy with it. Big, bright, clear, cheap (but not cheaply made)–everything you’d want! I especially appreciate the fact that it was surprisingly easy to set up. I don’t have a dish or cable connection in the bedroom, so, I just hooked it up to a very old antenna (probably was used to pick up Ed Sullivan) and the television automatically searched for the channels in my area and presto, up and running in literally under 5 minutes. I live approximately 50 miles from the nearest television towers and all expected channels came in perfect. I’m even receiving a number of channels that I didn’t even know where available in our area. The design is nice and understated, although the blue light on the front when the television is turned off is a bit bright for a bedroom (although I think there is a way to turn that off-just haven’t figured it out yet). Remote is very nice with soft rubbery keys that have back lighting. I think anyone would be happy with this purchase.

Don’t pay too much attention to the negative reviews. I bought this refurbished TV from Amazon in May and have it mounted on the bedroom wall. Picture (SD/HD) and SRS sound are good. Start-up is a little slow, around 10 sec. Also manual touch controls are a little sensitive, takes a while to get used to. You can always use the remote, which works fine. Remote must have RF, since I can point it at the opposite wall and it still works. Shop around, go for this 2007 model if you can get it for 0 or less. Otherwise, get the L19A331 model.
Useful tip: for wall mount, top of TV should not be more than a couple of inches above eye level. Otherwise, picture will be a little dark.
